what do YOU think?
Help me decide
Ok, I am pretty sure I have my XD(m) sold. I am going to be replacing it with a hunting firearm. Just not sure what direction I want to go as of yet.
Here are the next three items on my list:
460 or 500 S&W revolver with 6 to 8 inch barrel. I will equip it with a scope more than likely.
.444 rifle, either a Marlin lever action or Handi Rifle (I am a BIG lever gun and single shot fan. I currently hunt with a Ruger No.1 in 7mm Rem mag.)
Thompson Center Contender pistol chambered in something like 30-30 or larger.
Now, the S&W appeals to me because I can carry it in a holster, and its just a cool gun! And it would be suitable to hunt anything I hunt here in the Southeast.
But the .444 appeals to me because it is a rifle, and I want something I can have customized by Grizzly Customs and showcase it, but at the same time, use it to hunt anything I want to hunt. It’s a GREAT brush gun and spits a 300+ grain bullet. PLUS I found a .444 Marlin that has a rare stock on it and I am just ate up with it! this is the direction I am leaning, actually.
The T/C appeals to me because, well, who DOESN’T like the idea of a single shot pistol that you can exchange the barrels on?
So that’s my dilemma…
What yall think? The main reason I wanted to sell the XDm lately was for the revolver, but that was until I found the 444 and before I realized how much I liked the T/C… :

ok, you talk a lot of this 444, so I vote for you to get it and never look back, just to the future to save and buy the 460. you want cool factor, get you a 2" 460 and whip that thing out on somebody. shooting it may break a wrist though. the factor 8 3/4 " ported isn't too bad.

Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of an armed man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it never care for anything else thereafter.

Re: what do YOU think?
I own the 500 S&W and yes it is a "cool" gun AND also a monster .... and have shot a lot of contenders. For hunting, I would probably go with the contender .. and with the added versitility of changing barrels gives it another + in my book .. Not much into them long type sporting arms so I will leave the 444 rifle comments to others with much more experience than I!!

Re: what do YOU think?
The ballistics are a good bit better on the .444 than 45/70. That is why I chose it. However if I could get a lever gun in 35 whelen, I probably would have a pair of them instead.
