Hi All,

I travel to other states in my car, and Mississippi's designation for a concealed carry permit is "Firearms Permit". Wouldn't this be a little vague to LEOs in other states during a traffic stop? (Some states call the permit that is needed to simply *purchase* a gun a "Firearms Permit"). Is there any site or information that I can print-out and keep in my car that clearly states that a MS 'Firearms Permit' IS indeed a CCW permit, so I don't land in an out-of-state ...

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Time after time, public murder sprees occur in "gun-free zones" - public places where citizens are not legally able to carry guns. The list is long, including massacres at Virginia Tech and Columbine High School along with many less deadly attacks. Last week's slaughter at Fort Hood Army base in Texas was no different - except that one man bears responsibility for the ugly reality that the ...

Earlier this year, Forbes magazine released a list of America’s Most Dangerous Cities. The ranking was based on the violent crime statistics from the FBI’s latest uniform crime report, issued in 2008. The violent crime category is comprised of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

A couple of these caught my attention - would not have believed a couple of them being that high!

After a three-year fight, the Orlando Sentinel reports, gun rights advocates in Florida won the right to keep firearms in their cars at work.

According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel, you can take your gun to work, but there are restrictions. "Florida's Preservation and Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act of 2008" isn't completely cut-and-dried. So don't put your pistol in your lunchpail until you know the rules.

Coming from the Mayor of Chicago, it's no surprise he would blame this tragedy on America's love of gun. Someone should point out that it was the young lady with a firearm brought about the beginning of the end of the slaughter of the unarmed. An outrageous response to the actions of a coward.

I just read the NRA/ILA article on Mayors around the country wanting to restrict use of concealed carry and gun shows. I noticed that Johnny Dupre from Hattiesburg was on the List. They are asking that polite letters be sent to the mayors asking them to reconsider and if they don't, vote them out of office. Just trying to educate. Mac

Hey y'all, I've been wondering where the line is drawn between OC and brandishing. If I am concealed carrying, then let's say, pull back my jacket to reveal a holster, is that considered brandishing? Or do you actually have to draw the weapon to be brandishing? What if you feel threatened, but not enough to draw the weapon (yet). If you showed the imprint of the gun in your clothes, would that be brandishing? I'm just trying to get an understanding of where that line is drawn between openly ...

Mississippi CCW renewal improvements

From MSFOA Jeff Pittman:

Last week, I renewed my Mississippi concealed firearms license. As previously reported, if you last renewed in person, you may now renew by mail for alternating renewals. So, I got the stuff together and mailed mine in. It was dropped in our Jackson office mail late Tuesday. I received my new card in the mail at my rural address on Thursday. That means that DPS received the application, did their renewal process, and ...

U.S. Circuit Court rules registration constitutional

The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in a 3-0 opinion that it is legal for a federal, state, or local government to require gun registration and that there is no Constitutional conflict.

The ruling came as a result of a case in which John Justice, a resident of Cicero, Illinois, had his business raided by police and they found six handguns that had not been registered according to local law. Justice fought the charges ...

It came after the appeals court granted an extraordinary emergency appeal, called a writ of mandamus, from the Justice Department after the district judge agreed to allow those jury instructions.
