Found an interesting thread on brianenos.com Thought I'd steal the original Q from there and see how ya'll reply.

I realize IDPA is not real big here in Central, MS

I'm not interested in stirrring up any controversy of one vs the other...If it involves a gun I'm all for em...The person's Q is quite interesting to me however and I want to see what ya'll think...

I fired probably 200 rds of 38 spcl today in my model 686 and learned a ton....Yes I even learned a ton in the classroom...

Saturday, October 17 was cold with the wind at 12 mph, with gusts to 26 mph at Purgatory, the range south of Mendenhall, where the Mississippi Peacemakers held the monthly Cowboy Action match. 44 brave souls showed up for a great day of shooting after 15 straight days of rainfall had washed the range clean. This is only my 3rd Cowboy Action match to compete in, I shot July, August, missed Septemeber due to Gator hunting, and October. It is a great group and I managed to come in 17 of the 44 ...

This from The Tactical Wire: active firearms trainer and author Paul Markel explains another hazard to shooters. This hazard appears during range training as well as operationally. It's a word to the wise. Meanwhile, Massad Ayoob is on TV teaching us how to transition without dropping. Both points are well taken.

WHAT IS F-CLASS?

F-Class shooting was the brainchild of Canadian George Farquharson and the "F" was derived from his last name.

Mr. Farquharson came up with the idea of F-Class to enable he and other older shooters to continue competing alongside "iron sight" shooters who used a sling. Basically, he replaced the iron sights with a scope and replaced the sling hold with the option of using either a front bi-pod or a rest. F-Class is shot from the prone position ...

Guidelines to quality practice - Saul Kirsch

We have all heard the phrase “practice makes perfect”. Well, that simply is not true. Practice does not make perfect – it makes permanent. Whatever you do will be improved by practice. If you practice shooting badly, you will get better at shooting badly. If you practice shooting without taking care to be accurate, don’t expect anything else in competition.

Here are the guidelines I consider crucial to quality practice.

I have never had any training with a pistol except what I have learned growing up with Dad. I have seen all the training facilities around the south and other places but is there a place in central MS that does training? I would rather not have to drive but I might have to go to Memphis and take a few up there. Is there anyone out there that wants to go take a few with me? I would be starting out with the Level 1 class and going up from there.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

having to pump water off the back 40 and trudge through mud and muck. Even after a tremendous rain on Saturday, the bays did not have ANY standing water. It had ...

How important do you guys think competition is to building skills under stress for real life situations?

How many of you just compete to better your skills and dont care about even getting in the top 10?

Who wants to be a nationally recognized competitor or not? Why or why not?

Why do you shoot the disipline you do, and not others? Say you shoot USPSA to build personal protection skills...why dont you shoot f class or HP to build rifleman skills for hunting etc?

2. What do we want to do the worst. i.e. pistol, rifle, skeet, etc.

This Sunday....Set-up is at 7:00, and we'll start about 8:00.

This is a very new shooter friendly sport. You'll have a blast.

Info can be found here: http://msrevolver.com/outlaw_steel

You need a gun, a couple of extra mags/speed-loaders, eyes, ears, $5.00 match fee, about 200 rounds (you'll have leftovers) and a belt. And, whatever you don't have equipment wise, we'll lend you.

We'll give you a safety demo...and off to the races you go!
