I've been invited to hunt with some friends who hunt exclusively with dogs. What is the best choke to use for 00 buckshot? I know, I need to spend some time at the range with some patterning paper but this came up today and I don't know if I'll have time before Saturday.

went to Surplus City range today, bought a scope and had them zero my .444.

then i shot it 3 times. it was my FIRST time ever shooting a .444. let me tell you, i have shot a lot of single shot shotguns with highbrass heavy loads in my time, so i didnt think this would be much different. it definately got my attenttion when i pulled that trigger.

it isnt ALL that bad considering what it COULD be, but it is by far the worst in the recoil department of any gun i have ever owned or shot. ...

Glen DeRueter's fatal accident was a tragedy that should not have happened. First of all, he was shooting a Winchester Model 1895 in 6mm Lee Navy. The 6mm Navy rounds takes a .239" bullet. He used .243" jacketed ammo. Also he was using .220 Swift cases in the rifle. The 6mm Lee Navy is the parent case for the .220 Swift. The .220 has a smaller case capacity than the 6mm Lee.

Nothing wrong with that...I aint doggin it...

So what do ya'll think of this round? Why is it needed?.Does it have a specific thing it does better than any other..or is it another just cause I wanted one caliber?....

I recently bought a Savage Model 111 in .25-06, really excited to get it into the deer woods. I don't roll my own rifle rounds, and am trying to get some idea of what direction to go with getting ammunition for it. I've had several folks tell me that the days of loading the heaviest bullet you can find are gone, and that a ballistic tipped smaller bullet (85 grain or so, I'd guess for this caliber) moving at higher speed is devastating on deer. Others still favor a larger, slower moving round. ...

Seeing Strkyer6's new Socom 16 M1A really got me turned on this am.

I'm fairly ignornant on the M1 Garand and M1A rifles.

The first thing I notice when I pick up a M1A Scout class rifle is boy is it heavy...9 - 12 lbs The other thing I notice is the receiver looks just like a M1 Garand. I know the M1A is a SA variant of the M14

Looks like the gun operates and is disassembled much the same way

Besides them being chambered in my favorite caliber (.308) and not 30'06... what ...

Remington has the Hogue overmolded stock, Xmark Pro trigger, no box magazine. Savage has the Accu Trigger, and new Accu Stock, box magazine. Not wild about the digital camo on the Savage but will DuraCoat the rest OD green so it looks a bit better. Oh, and the Savage has the oversized bolt handle as well.

I got to thinking the other day:

Why are all the gun companies coming out with new calibers and guns chambered for them, when they won't do a very simple improvement to a long-standing caliber, in both its ammo and the guns chambered for it?

I speak of the .22-250.

Back when it came out, it apparently never occurred to anyone to make longer, heavier .22 centerfire bullets, so the standards for .22-250 have always been 50-60 gr. bullets. However, with the modern run towards 60+ ...

just wanting to know what you like and why. you may have several for different kinds of shooting which is fine.

I'll start off by saying when I bought my Benelli SBE II, I think I've bought my last shotgun. it is really nice shooter and will feed anything.
once I thought you couldn't beat a Remington 1100, but I was mistaken.
now for deer hunting with a shotgun, I prefer the 835 Ulti-Mag Mossberg (bad sucka)

lets here what yall think or like.

It is an 80% replica of the Sharps rifle and it is a hoot to shoot. It came with a tang mounted rear sight, double set trigger, color case hardened reciever and lever withe a ble barrel. Fit and function is very good and it ishunting accurate at 100 yds from the bench. I did have to drill the hole bigger int he rear ...
